IOWA BETTING

Here is our Iowa Betting guide, including information on why choosing offshore sportsbooks like YouWager.lv is the right choice.

Iowa is one of just five states in the country where all six major categories of betting, including charitable, parimutuel, commercial, tribal, racetrack, and lotteries, are legal in some form. In addition, Iowa, along with Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, and Mississippi, is one of just six states that allow riverboat gambling, and the first to do so.

Iowa Gaming Regulations

Illegal gambling is described as “participating in a game for anything of value or making any bet” in Chapter 725 of the Iowa Code in regard to Vices. Penalties vary, but the first violation is punishable by a high misdemeanor. Anything used as a stake in a wager or bet is forfeited to the state and may be seized or disposed of, including gambling instruments.

The Pari-mutuel Wagering Act became passed in 1983 to allow horse and dog racing wagering in Iowa, and measures were later expanded to allow casino gaming on riverboats in 1989, with the first riverboat casino Sportsbook opening for business in 1991.

Native American Casinos

There are currently 21 casinos in Iowa, three of which are tribally owned, including the Blackbird Bend Casino, Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel, and WinnaVegas Casino. Slot machines, bingo, and table games such as blackjack, Pai Gow, poker, craps, baccarat, and roulette are available at these tribal casinos.

Iowa Sports Betting

The state of Iowa prohibits sports betting.

Sportsbooks Online

Despite the fact that there are no sportsbooks in Iowa, either physically or online, bettors can still choose from a variety of offshore choices. Online sports betting services are typically regarded as a far safer option than traditional sportsbooks. Aside from the convenience of making bets directly from a computer or mobile device and a range of alternatives, internet bettors can rely on reputable and well-reviewed offshore bookmakers to constantly offer lines and pay out, which may not always be the case with local bookies.

Iowa Poker and Casino

The remaining 18 casinos in Iowa are usually located near or on water, such as one of the many riverboats. Among these is the recently opened Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Sioux City, which has over 800 slot machines. The Horseshoe Council Bluffs is Iowa’s largest casino, with a gaming area of 68,000 square feet and more than 1,600 slots, 70 table games, and an 18-table poker room.

Online Poker

Online gaming may appeal to interested players who can seek online poker websites in order to engage if they do not visit the tribal and other state-licensed casinos in Iowa, including riverboats.

Other Iowa Gaming Options

Betting on horse and dog races is permissible. Furthermore, raffles of up to $200 in value are permitted alongside bingo, and any adult with a license can host a game night as long as no motives other than goodwill are involved.

The Iowa Lottery

The Iowa Lottery was established in 1985 with the purpose of entertaining players with entertainment and rewards while also earning billions of dollars for state services. The lottery proceeds have been used to promote tourism, assist veterans, build new leisure areas, fund research at the state’s public colleges, and produce new agricultural products. Scratch tickets, pull tabs, and popular drawings such as Powerball and Mega Millions are examples of lottery games.
