There is a lot to be excited about in this series. Both teams have high expectations and play an exciting brand of baseball. The starters for Monday’s game have not been announced at the time of writing, but stay tuned to the sportsbook for the listed pitcher action to drop.

Odds to expect

Toronto will be a 1.5 run line favorite for the first game of the series against Seattle starting Monday. Look for Toronto as short as a -180 moneyline favorite while Seattle will be around +160 or longer.

There is still room for some shuffling for the starting pitching, but it does not look like we will see Robbie Ray face his former team in Toronto in this series. Ray is scheduled to start Sunday against the Mets. Instead, right-hander Chris Flexen should be the starter for the Mariners. Toronto is likely to start lefty Yusei Kikuchi, with Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman up next in the series.

On the mound

Based on our projected starting pitching in this matchup, Kikuchi is the arm we are favoring.. He can be more boom or bust than Flexen, with 23-percent strikeouts but a nearly 15-percent walk rate. Flexen is coming off a dreadful performance last Monday, giving up 6 runs against the Phillies. Kikuchi’s last game saw him allow 2 runs, 2 hits and 3 walks against the Yankees in a loss on Tuesday.

Seattle is 2-7 against left-handed pitchers.

At the Plate

The top of the order for Toronto is one of the scariest in the bigs and much more formidable in this matchup. It just has not shown it consistently this season. One-through-nine the Jays have just one player with less than 20 hits on the year (DH Zach Collins). Vlad Guerrero Jr. is getting a fair amount of protection around him in the lineup too. Bo Bichette and George Springer are both batting .280 or better, with 32 combined RBI. The team is still waiting for Matt Chapman to come to life but there is a lot of firepower to go around.

The M’s still have a lot to prove. Lead-off hitter Cal Raleigh was recently demoted and brought back up over the last three weeks. Doubts are creeping in about the ceiling for Jarred Kelenic, who was a highly-touted prospect. Outside of the two through four-hole spots, the batting order is lean.

Prediction

Both teams really need a good series to get back on track. They are a combined 5-15 in their last 10 games and fall under .500 combined over 20. Toronto has been stronger at home, going 10-6. Seattle is just 5-11 on the road this season.

The Mariners are marginally better against the run line, boasting a 16-16 record. They fall less than a half run in the red in margin of victory. Toronto’s margin of victory is slightly worse but they have covered in just 40-percent of their games.

The trends are telling us Seattle can cover the run line in this game, but we are heeding some warning about the starting pitching. If Flexen gets the call, we will fade Seattle and take the Jays to cover. In either case, the Jays win Monday at home.

Both teams have won a series and have 9 wins against. Their last playoff series was in the 2006 Conference FInals when Dallas won 4-2 on the way to its first Finals appearance.

The Series So Far

The home team has won every game in this series by 9 points or more.

Facing elimination in Game 6, Dallas dominated 113-86, leading by 15 at halftime. Luka Doncic posted 33 points and 8 assists in the win. In Phoenix, Doncic has not had the same support around him as he is getting at home. He has been consistent though. Going into Game 6, Doncic’s teams were 0-2 in elimination games.

Even with three poor showings in Dallas, the Suns have been the better team in this series. They are shooting 49-percent from the field and 41-percent from three. While Devin Booker and Chris Paul have struggled on the road, Deandre Ayton continues to produce regardless of the site. He is averaging more than 17 points and 8 boards, shooting a hair under 60-percent for the series. The Mavs do not have a player who can effectively match up with Ayton, but help defense has worked in spots. In particular, bringing Dwight Powell to help off the dribble has been the best defense against Ayton.

Outside of Doncic, Dallas has not had another player elevate in this series. Jalen Brunson had a phenomenal series in the first round against Utah but has remained relatively quiet against Phoenix. Dallas has built runs off of turnovers and by allowing Doncic to penetrate and find shooters beyond the arc. When those shots fall, the Mavs stay in the game.

The elephant in the room

We need to talk about what could be looming over this game. There is a possibility referee Scott Foster is assigned to officiate Game 7. Why is this important? Chris Paul’s teams have lost 14-straight games when officiated by Foster. It is never good when we know the name of an official, or think about him when analyzing a game. Foster was on assignment for Friday’s game between Boston and Milwaukee.

Prediction

The trend in this series has been for the home team to bring much more energy to the court than the road team. Home court aside, the Suns are a significantly better team. They have better defenders at every position and there is not an apparent offensive weakness in the starting five or top of their bench rotation.

Dallas is dependent on Doncic to be great all too often. He is still ailing from a calf injury that sidelined him in the first round. It was evident again in Game 6 when he was seen being treated on his way to the locker room.

Paul will benefit from the extra day’s rest and Booker will get back in rhythm. Phoenix wins and covers the spread.

West Ham United vs. Manchester City

Manchester City is a heavy favorite to win its match Sunday against West Ham United. City is -250 to win outright and West Ham is +650. A draw has the second-shortest odds on the three-way moneyline at +400. Total Goals are Over/Under 2.5 (Over -189, Under +150).

Everything on the line

City has been the class of the EPL this season but there is not a lot of room for error if the club is going to stay on top. At 28-3-5, the Blues are neck-and-neck with Liverpool (26-2-8), leading by just three points. There are just two games left for both clubs so a win in this game could lock up the title for City.

Manchester City has been in perfect form in EPL play, winning five in a row and in impressive fashion. It has scored 22 goals in that span, an average of 4.4 goals per game. Even more impressive is giving up just two goals.

While City is a sizable favorite, the Hammers have a lot to play for as well. West Ham could propel itself ahead of Man United with a win. It has been a tough last month for this club, going just 1-4 in its last five matches. They were bounced from Europa League competition just 10 days prior to this game. But their response was an emphatic 4-0 win against Norwich City. If they can score the huge upset, a sixth-place finish would put them right back in Europa League play next season. There are shakeups coming for the club so a win here would be monumental in the present and future.

Prediction

The last time these clubs met it was a tightly contested game in November in a near blizzard. The weather will be much more pleasant this time around but we expect a similar type of game when it comes to the scoreboard. Ultimately Manchester City has been too disciplined down the stretch of the season to slip up this close to the finish line. City gets the win in a game that makes it Over the 2.5 goal line.

The consensus among experts is to ride the hottest player in the game until he gives you a reason not to. Winning five of eight events is a lot for any player. Scheffler has given us no reason to fade though. Nevermind the fact that he is a native of the Dallas area just a hop away from this course. At +1000, he has great value as a favorite. Include Scheffler in your bets this week without hesitation.

Thomas +1100 is another good play to get in on. He has been solid this season, gaining the second most strokes tee-to-green. He has not been able to put it all together for a win yet, but if he can find his short game he could walk away a winner on Sunday.

The longshot to love

There are several players you can make an argument for at this tournament, especially considering the overall field is relatively weak. You can bet the field at +300 by the way.

Will Zalatoris +2200 to win is the top longshot primed to get his first win. He has finished in the top-10 in each of his last three events and is the best player in this field in strokes gained from his approach. This sets him up for a lot of Birdie opportunities which he captures more often than not on the green. It is a forgiving course, so those extra strokes will make a big difference in the end.

Carolina is a -1.5 puck line favorite and -135 to win outright at home against Boston. The Bruins are +115 to win and the Total Goals Over/Under is 6 (Over +105, Under -125).

The Bruins forced Game 7 with a 5-2 win at home on Thursday. They have had a slight edge in controlling the puck with a 51-percent Corsi score and 52-percent Fenwick. They have also been much more aggressive at putting shots on goal, to the tune of a 198-175 advantage. They have found themselves on the wrong side of the power play on more occasions though. Carolina is getting  quality opportunities, which it has not made good on often enough. If the series gets away at home, there will be several moments Rod Brind’Amour will look back at with regret.

The Bruins have been the more aggressive and resourceful team throughout this series. To this point the series can be described as one team imposing its will in each game, coming out the victor. Despite being a little shorthanded, Boston is going to steal another game on the road and win this series.

Tampa Bay @ Toronto
7 p.m. ET on TNT

Toronto is a 1.5 goal puck line favorite and -125 on the moneyline to eliminate Tampa Bay on Saturday. The Lightning are +105 and the Total Goals Over/Under is 6.5, -110 both ways.

The Maple Leafs looked poised to put the defending champions away going into Game 6. They could not finish the job and now the pressure is on. This series has more than lived up to the hype. Shot attempts and puck advantage have been nearly even through six games. The biggest swing in favor of the Lightning has been penalties. Tampa has a 3-goal edge in Power Plays and has played under significantly fewer penalty minutes. There is no room for error from either team. Right now, it looks like Tampa’s poise under the playoff pressure is what has kept the team in it.

Coming into this series, Toronto was favored to win and advance. The longer the series has gone, the more you can see the Lightning pulling even. The Maple Leafs were the more talented team all season. Saturday they will escape Tampa Bay by a goal.

Los Angeles @ Edmonton
10 p.m. ET on ESPN

Edmonton is a -1.5 goal puck line favorite and -215 on the moneyline against Los Angeles. The Kings are +177 to win and the Total Goals Over/Under is 6.5 (Over +100, Under -120).

The Kings and Oilers have been one of the most action-packed first round series. The teams have combined for 440 shot attempts and 42 goals. The Oilers have led this charge, keeping with their offensive strength in the regular season. It is all about volume for Edmonton and they know how to keep the volume coming. They have controlled the puck and defended the net, both well above average all season. The Kings still clawed their way back into this series with back-to-back offensive showings of their own. The forwards of Edmonton are unlikely to be outperformed again on their home ice Saturday though.

We are leaning on the stars to shine in this game, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl coming through for the Oilers. Edmonton will win and cover.

The fighters met in July with the unification of four light middleweight titles on the line. Charlo already held three titles after winning a unifying bout with Tony Harrison in 2019. The fight with Castano, held in San Antonio, ended in a split draw.

While the ending did not satisfy a full unification, it was hard to argue it was a fair decision considering how competitive it was. Both fighters put on a showcase with Castano looking a little ahead early before fading late. Charlo then scored with a strong finish, cementing the draw.

Tale of the Tape

Charlo is 31-1-1 all time, with 18 KOs. He has a substantial height advantage, standing approximately four inches taller than his opponent. He also has a reach advantage of more than five inches.

In his last five fights, Charlo is 3-1-1 with three knockouts, a unanimous decision loss to Tony Harrison, and the draw with Castano last summer.

Castano is 17-0-2 with 12 KOs, including two TKOs in his last five fights. He is the older of the two fighters, though also less experienced. He has shown a penchant for scoring knockouts at a higher rate than his opponent here. But in their last fight he also showed a lack of stamina as the fight wore on.

Prediction

The one thing that is for sure in this fight is it will be another competitive bout. Castano looked like he may have had a  slight edge in July’s fight, just not enough to sway the judges to take titles off of Charlo. To win he needs something much more definitive and he knows it.

Charlo on the other hand has a significant defensive edge and gets stronger the longer the fight goes. This one will go long too, Over 10.5 rounds. We are taking Charlo to win by decision and will likely be hoping for another rematch if this is anything like the first fight.

Leeds United vs. Chelsea

Chelsea will be a goal favorite when it faces Leeds United on Wednesday.

The Blues are third in the league table with a 19-6-9 record. They have 66 points with 68 goals for and just 29 against, posting a +39 differential.

In form, Chelsea is 2-2-1 coming off a loss to Everton last week. They also played to a 1-1 draw against Manchester City before that.

Leeds is 2-1-2 in form after an 0-4 loss to Man City. They have wins against Wolverhampton and Watford, putting up 6 goals in those contests. In league play, they are at a -34 goal deficit, with an 8-10-16 record. That puts them in 17th place out of 20 clubs.

Chelsea just lost its first road game since January and are trying to build momentum heading into a crucial point of their season. We are taking Chelsea to cover on the goal line and win this game with relative ease.

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Arsenal

Thursday, May 12

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are set for a pick ‘em matchup on Thursday. The clubs are neck-and-neck in the EPL standings with Arsenal currently on the inside track. The Gunners are in fourth place with 63 points, a 20-11-3 record, 54 goals and 41 goals against. The Spurs have 61 points with a 19-11-4 record. They have 59 goals for and 39 against, giving them the better scoring differential at +20.

Recent matches between these clubs have been as back and forth as it gets. Tottenham has a 3-2 edge in the last five meetings but Arsenal dominated back in September, winning 3-1.

The Spurs are 3-1-1 in form including a 3-1 win against Leicester City and 5-1 against Newcastle United.

Arsenal is 3-2 in its last five, including wins over Chelsea and Manchester City. They have been playing at a high level on either side of the field, increasing their scoring output while limiting opportunities for their opponents.

This game is going to follow the recent back-and-forth trend with these teams. This time it swings in favor of Hotspur winning outright.

Oliveira vs. Gaethje

Charles Oliveira will defend his Lightweight title in the main event against Justin Gaethje. Oliveira is a -170 favorite on the moneyline while Gaethje takes +145 odds. The Total Rounds Over/Under is 1.5 (Over -195, Under +165).

Oliveira has a 32-6-0 record with 20 submission victories and 9 (T)KOs. He finished his last fight against Dustin Poirier by submission in the third round at UFC 269. It was one of two submission victories in his last five bouts, which were all wins. Only one of his last five fights went to a decision.

Oliveira is giving up an inch of height but has a four-inch reach advantage over Gaethje. He is much more versed in the ground game, with a 2.50 takedown average. Gaethje has an edge in significant strikes, landing 7.50 per minute to Oliveira’s 3.44.

Gaethje is 23-3-0 with 19 (T)KOs and one submission victory. He also has one loss by submission. His last fight ended with a three round decision victory against Michael Chandler at UFC 268. His one submission loss was in the match before against Khabib Nurmagomedov. He had three (T)KO wins in a row prior to that loss.

This fight looks like a clash of styles so whoever can keep the fight where they want it could dominate the matchup. Oliveira’s length will make it difficult for Gaethje to keep him outside and away from his legs. There will be a feeling out process, but eventually Oliveira will close the space and get Gaethje on the ground, where he will begin to score and ultimately decide the fight.

Namajunas vs. Esparza

Rose Namajunas is set to defend her Women’s Strawweight Championship against Carla Esparza Saturday night. “Thug” Rose is a -210 moneyline favorite and Esparza is taking +175 odds as an underdog. The Total Rounds Over/Under is 4.5 rounds (Over -180, Under +150).

Namajunas is 12-4-0 with six submissions and two (T)KO victories. She is coming off two wins against Zhang Weili, including a decision in their rematch at UFC 268. She has elevated from a promising young fighter in the women’s division to perhaps the face of the division. Her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training makes her a versatile fighter who is dangerous in small spaces.

Esparza is 19-6-0 with four submissions and four (T)KOs. She won her last fight against Yan

Xiaonan by second round (T)KO, capping off five-straight wins. She defeated Namajunas way back in 2014, utilizing counters to bring her to the mat repeatedly.

As a wrestler, Esparza’s discipline has an advantage in the takedown game. Namajunas has a substantial edge in size and takedown accuracy. She also lands significant strikes at nearly twice the rate of Esparza. Namajunas has refined her skills a lot since 2014. We are taking Namajunas to finish this fight Under 4.5 rounds.

Toronto vs. Tampa Bay

The defending Stanley Cup Champions host Toronto in Game 4 of their first round series. The Lightning are -1.5 goal favorites and -120 on the moneyline. The Maple Leafs are even money to win outright and the Over/Under Total Goals is 6.5 (Over -105, Under -115).

The series has lived up to the hype as one of the most anticipated of these playoffs. The Leafs dominated the first game, winning 5-0 going away. Tampa responded with their own 5-goal game in Game 2, evening the series.

Auston Matthews and Matthew Marner have been one of the best duos on the ice early in the postseason, both ranking atop the league in points. To win its first series since 2004 against the two-time defending champions of all teams, Toronto cannot afford to let up on the road. This was the fourth best scoring team in the NHL this season, but Tampa found its stride late in the year.

It looked like a changing of the guard in Tampa Bay for much of the season. The Lightning seem to have put that behind them heading into this playoff run. They are favored in this game but came into the series as underdogs to win it. It does not appear they will be able to slow Toronto down, giving up more than 2.5 goals per game this season. Instead, the team will remain aggressive on the net.

Tampa Bay was a moneyline favorite 71 times this season and still walked away with 48 outright wins in those games. Toronto will eventually take this series. It is going the distance though. Take the Lightning to win at home with Toronto covering the spread and Total Goals going Over.

Minnesota vs. St. Louis

Minnesota and St. Louis meet Sunday night in another closely matched series. The Central Division rivals are very familiar with each other, though the Blues have dominated the Wild with a 13-2-1 head-to-head record going their way.

St. Louis is a -1.5 goal favorite and -125 to win outright Sunday. The Wild are +105 on the moneyline and the Total Goals Over/Under is 6.5 (Over +100, Under -120).

While the history between these teams greatly favors St. Louis, both of these teams were playing on another level toward the end of the regular season. The Wild have the highest points percentage in the league since mid March, nearly a whole point ahead of the closest competitors in Florida, Toronto and Edmonton. Nevermind the fact that Minnesota is strong and deep in the net after bringing Marc-Andre Fleury on board.

The Blues are known for a potent offense as well. That is not to say they are not without a defensive presence. The team added Nick Leddy midseason to shore itself up on the back end and his contributions have been two-fold. He gives the team an enforcer it was missing and brings an unexpected jolt to the offense. The Blues are a little shakier at the goal of course, but that does not mean it is necessarily a weakness. Jordan Binnington has maintained the starting role but it seems only a matter of time before St. Louis gives Ville Husso a shot at shaking things up.

We like the Wild to come out of this series the winner but we are rolling with St. Louis in this game. The Blues were 24-17 against the spread this season and will improve on that in this game, which will go Under 6.5 goals.

Many of the world’s top golfers are DNPs this week so it is anyone’s course to be won. There is just one heavy favorite for the tournament while the rest of the field is taking long odds to win. You can find all the action in our sportsbook.

The course at Avenel Farm is a bentgrass course, making it play on the faster side. Meanwhile the Scottish-style bunkers are deep and hazardous for an ill-placed shot. We could see a big gap between the top of the leaderboard and the players near the bottom.

Rory a big favorite

Rory McIlroy +700 is a huge favorite to win the Wells Fargo Championship as the only player with odds shorter than +1500. He has been up and down this season but is coming off a -7 showing at the Masters (which is already nearly a month ago!)

McIlroy is the defending champion after a one-stroke win over Abraham Ancer last year. The event was held at Quail Hollow, which is one of the toughest PGA courses. That win broke a relative slump for him, and he could use another big performance to capitalize on his play at Augusta. For such a heavy favorite, McIlroy +700 is good value. The field is +300.

The Sleepers to watch

Tony Finau +1800 has the second shortest odds to win this week. Finau is a popular pick among experts after leading in GIR at the Mexico Open last week. He very well could have won that event if not for missed putts early on. This is a very different course so do not lean too heavily on Finau having another career-best performance between the tee and green in consecutive weeks.

For our sleeper we are looking way down the odds list to Brian Harman +6600. He won the Wells Fargo Championship in 2017, which was also the last time the event was not held at Quail Hollow. Harman tied for fifth at the Valspar Championship and had a third-place finish back in January. His putting has been the best of his career this season and he’s been deadly accurate off the tee.
