The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma location of Remington Park is home to both a casino and a horse racing competition. One mile is the circumference of the main dirt track, and seven furlongs is the length of the inner turf course. Beginning in March and continuing through June, the track hosts an American Quarter Horse, Paint, and Appaloosa riding season. Beginning in August and continuing through December is the Thoroughbred season. In addition, Remington Park is the location of the richest race in Oklahoma, which takes place every year in May and is known as the Heritage Place Futurity. The Oklahoma Derby, which takes place in the fall and is worth $400,000, is the highlight of the Thoroughbred season. Remington Park History
The official opening of Remington Park took place on September 1st, 1988. Additionally, it was the only track in the United States that utilized a synthetic surface for its primary track at the time. The synthetic Equitrack, which consisted of grains of sand that were coated with a wax polymer, was not able to withstand the extremely hot summers in Oklahoma, thus Remington Park decided to replace it with a racing surface that was more conventional. Between the years of 2005 and 2005, no other American track would have a synthetic surface.
Remington Park has been home to a casino that features 750 slot machines ever since the year 1995. When compared to the other 65 Thoroughbred racetracks in North America, the Horseplayers Association of North America ranked Remington Park as the third best track in 2009.
