In the summer of 2013, Hialeah Park celebrated the grand inauguration of the Hialeah Park Casino, which was a component of a development plan that cost several millions of dollars. The racing season for 2013–2014 consists of forty days of competition, with daily purses amounting to a total of $140,000.
Hialeah Park History
The pioneer in aviation, Glenn Curtiss, and his business partner, James Bright, were the ones who initially opened Hialeah Park in 1921. For the first time on January 25, 1925, the Miami Jockey Club opened the race track in Hialeah.
Prior to its closing in 2001, the facility, which was 92 years old at the time, was a popular destination for Thoroughbred racing and a well-traveled location on the roadway leading to the Kentucky Derby. It was believed that the Flamingo Stakes, which was called after the pink infield occupants that were characteristic of Hialeah, was an essential preparation for the Derby. The track has been exclusively hosting Quarter Horse racing ever since it reopened in 2009. Its program features 27 stakes races with a combined value of more than $1.2 million, as well as the Hialeah Futurity, a 440-yard competition for two-year-olds that is worth an additional $200,000 in addition of the regular stakes races.
