Shohei Ohtani Works to Build Chemistry With Dalton Rushing as Dodgers Complete Series Sweep Despite Slow Start

A poor inning on the mound was followed by Shohei Ohtani’s tremendous recovery, which resulted in yet another victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are currently in first place in the major leagues.

The fact that the two-way great was able to carry his struggling catcher, Dalton Rushing, along with him demonstrates that there is even more to his magnificent game than just pitching and hitting.

Rushing, on the other hand, was particularly frustrated with himself since Ohtani had to practically take over the pitch calling process in order to make it through the remaining hours of the night.

“It’s pretty embarrassing,” said Rushing, who also went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts and a foul pop out at the plate. “It’s a good thing he’s as good as he is and he can take control of the game,” stated Rushing. “They have never failed to have my back. Once more, the fact that I require assistance of that nature is somewhat embarrassing. It’s a fairly difficult pill to swallow, especially considering that I’m an adult.

Despite the fact that he has been pitching despite ongoing pain in his left knee and a blister on his right middle finger, Ohtani has been able to record quality starts consisting of six innings or more and three earned runs or fewer in eleven out of thirteen assignments. The player who has won the Most Valuable Player title four times has also been able to reach base safely in 23 consecutive road games, batting.381 and driving in 24 runs during those games.

The first ten outings that Ohtani made with Smith as his catcher resulted in an earned run average of 0.74. Ohtani has a 4.34 earned run average (ERA) after the injury, and he has gone three times with Rushing behind the plate.

“Showing Rush my pitching style that I’m capable of is really another way of being able to communicate,” Ohtani described the situation. In a perfect world, I would like for both of us to contribute and truly be able to shine because we have very diverse talents. This is the ideal situation that I would like to be in.

According to Roberts, Rushing does not need to be concerned about the possibility of losing his role.

Currently, it is a work in progress. According to Roberts, “He becomes frustrated when he is not performing up to the standards he has set for himself because he has high expectations for himself and he wants to do really well.” I believe that the positive aspect is that he is still aware that his primary objective is to support the pitchers and to be behind the plate, but the fact that he has struggled in the most recent games is a positive development.
