MLB All-Star Voting Update: Three Detroit Tigers on the Bubble After Phase 1

The first round of voting for the All-Star game was completed at noon today, and we won’t know the results until they are shown on MLB Network on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. It is determined that the player who receives the most votes in each league will be given a starting position. As of the most recent update to the vote count, which was performed on Monday, Shohei Ohtani is currently in the lead, with a large advantage over fellow Dodger Max Muncy. As a matter of some amusement, the utility player for the Blue Jays, Ernie Clement, is currently in first place in the American League, surpassing the designated hitter for the Astros, Yemen Alvarez. As is customary, a specific group or fanbase is gaining control of the voting process, and this time, the entire country of Canada is on their side.

With this being the case, it should come as no surprise that the All-Star Game does not have the same impact as it once did. In one sense, it is beneficial for the league to have fans vote on a full ballot of possibilities since it increases the level of involvement. However, a little pre-selection process may not be a bad idea in order to prevent the size of the fandom from being the deciding factor in who is selected for the final round. Due to the fact that the American League as a whole is having a difficult season, plus the fact that stars like Aaron Judge and Mike Trout, who are currently ranked third and fourth in the vote, respectively, are both injured, this was always going to be a very open field in terms of who actually takes the field.

A total of six outfielder positions are available in each league, and the two players who receive the most votes at each position in each league will be the ones to advance to the second phase of voting. On Monday, June 29, at noon, the second phase of voting for fans will begin, and they will have a total of three days to finish their votes. This will be a whole new ballot, and the votes cast during Phase 1 will not be included. For the reason that fans will need to cram themselves into that seventy-two hour window in order to get the Tigers’ best players the rest of the way, we will keep you posted on how they are performing.

There is no question that Dillon Dingler and Kevin McGonigle are deserving of significant attention. Dingler has been the best all-around catcher in the game this season, but at the last report, he was ranked third at the shortstop position behind the Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. and the Blue Jays’ Andrés Giménez. McGonigle, on the other hand, was ranked third at the position behind the Athletics’ Shea Langeliers and the Blue Jays’ Alejandro Kirk. Riley Greene is still in the running for the American League outfielder position, and taking into account the fact that six outfielders will advance to the second phase of voting, there is still a possibility that Greene will also advance to the second round of voting, despite the fact that he was in ninth place as of the most recent vote totals that were made public on Monday.

It might be for the best if none of the Tigers’ players make it to the All-Star Game this year, taking into consideration how things went for them during the previous summer. Despite the fact that it is a lovely honor, having a week off would not be detrimental to the three Tigers, as they have been carrying the load for the struggling Tigers during the first half of the season, which has been beset by injuries. Blue Jays supporters are voting like crazy.

Additionally, the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft will take place on July 11-12, the All-Star Futures Game for prospects will take place on July 12, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take place on July 13, and the All-Star Game itself will take place on July 14.
