Twins Injury Update: Mick Abel Undergoes Arthroscopic Surgery on Elbow
The right-handed pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, Mick Abel, has recently experienced a setback in his injury recovery, and as a result, he has been indicated to have arthroscopic elbow surgery.
More than two months after Abel was initially placed on the disabled list, the Twins made the announcement that he will have the minor treatment. This follows an evaluation that was conducted by Dr. Keith Meister, an orthopedic specialist. However, the schedule for Abel’s return will not be established until after the operation has been completed.
Having completed two successful rehab starts for Triple-A St. Paul, the Twins had Abel scheduled to return to the rotation in the imminent future. However, he claimed to be experiencing discomfort after his bullpen session, and he was unable to continue throwing.
Abel was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies along with Eduardo Tait, a minor league catcher, to acquire closer Jhoan Duran. This transaction took place the day before the trade deadline in the previous season.
In four outings this year, the 24-year-old pitcher had a 3.98 earned run average (ERA), and he had thrown 14 consecutive innings without allowing any runs to be scored before he was sidelined by elbow inflammation after his start on April 14.
Injury has resulted in a reduction in the number of starting pitchers for Minnesota. López, a left-handed pitcher who was selected for the All-Star team in 2023, will miss the rest of the season due to elbow surgery. The right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober has been out of action for the past three weeks due to discomfort in her elbow, and she is not expected to return until after the All-Star break.
