Cubs Trade Rumors: Chicago Reportedly Acquires David Peterson From Mets
According to a person who has firsthand knowledge of the transaction, the Chicago Cubs have filled a void in their depleted rotation by obtaining David Peterson, a left-handed pitcher who is having difficulty, through a trade with the New York Mets.
Due to the fact that the relocation had not yet been announced, the individual spoke to The Associated Press under the request that they remain anonymous.
Ben Brown and Edward Cabrera were both placed on the 15-day injured list by the Cubs, which added to the team’s already extensive list of injuries in their rotation. Brown has a pain in his neck, and Cabrera is unable to play because of a hamstring problem in his left leg.
In addition to Jameson Taillon and Cade Horton, Justin Steele is also on the injured list.Matthew Boyd is scheduled to return from the disabled list and take over for Brown in the last game of the series, which will be played against the Mets.
As part of the transaction, New York acquired Cole Mathis, a slugging infielder who plays in the minor leagues. Mathis, who is 22 years old and was selected in the second round of the amateur selection in 2024, is currently hitting.This season, he has 272 hits, 10 home runs, and 39 RBIs in 39 games played across two stops.
With eight starts and eight relief appearances so far this season, Peterson, who is 30 years old, has a record of 3-6 with a 6.09 earned run average. At the conclusion of this season, he will be eligible for free agency.
