Super Bowl 2024: Chiefs Favorites to Win It All Again
The Super Bowl is over, and the Kansas City Chiefs have won it for the second time in four years.
Only eight teams have ever won two Super Bowls in a row. The New England Patriots were the last team to do this, winning Super Bowls XXVIII and XXXIX.
But if any team can do it, it would be Patrick Mahomes and his teammates, who turned a 10-point halftime deficit against the Philadelphia Eagles into a 3-point win. Who would be surprised if they made it to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years?
Chiefs Favorites
Indeed, Kansas City is the early favorite to win again.
Since it’s never too early to get in on the action, let’s take a look at the odds for the Super Bowl next year.
YouWager lv gives the Chiefs a +500 chance to win it all next season (bet $10 to win $50 total for a total return of $60), and the Buffalo Bills are close behind with a +550 chance (bet $10 to win $65 total).
The Chiefs have gotten the most bets on the futures market.
A Lot of Bets on These Teams
And teams such as the Cardinals and Jets, which might surprise you, are close to the Bengals for the second-most bets.
Most of these teams make sense in one way or another. It’s clear that the Chiefs just won the Super Bowl. The Bengals were back in the AFC Championship Game.
The Jets have ties to top quarterbacks, especially Aaron Rodgers. The Panthers have a new head coach, Frank Reich, and play in what might be the worst division in football.
However, the Cardinals are very strange. At the moment, the team doesn’t have a head coach, and Kyler Murray is likely to miss most of the season with a torn ACL.
There have also been talks about trading DeAndre Hopkins, which makes it look like the team is more likely to start over than go for the championship.
Early betting, though, says that the Cardinals are a lot better than the books think. We’ll see if Arizona has something up its sleeve this offseason to prove them right.
Favorites Before The Season
Who was the clear favorite before the last season?
At the start of the season, YouWager.lv had the Bills as the favorite to win it all, but Buffalo lost in the divisional round.
In fact, being one of the leaders in preseason betting this year was not a good thing, since nine of the ten teams with preseason odds of +2000 or lower did not make it to Super Bowl LVII (the Chiefs, who were +1000, were the only exception).
What about the Eagles, who won the NFC? They had +2200 odds to win it all at the start of the season, which was the same as the Dallas Cowboys and tied for the 11th-best odds.
Fans of the Rams (5-12 record), Packers (3-6 start, 8-9 record), and Broncos were especially upset with the season (3-10 start en route to 5-12 record, fired first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett).
On the other hand, let’s talk about the six teams that were the betting favorites at the start of the season and won the Super Bowl.
The New England Patriots (2016, 2018), the San Francisco 49ers (1988–89), the Dallas Cowboys (1989), and the Indianapolis Colts (2017) all did it twice (1993).
So, can the Chiefs get the ball back? And what does it all mean so soon, when the NFL Draft, free agency, retirements, and injuries are still a long way off? For fans and bettors, it’s always fun to think about the next season.
So, if you want to bet early on next season, just go with your gut and head to YouWager.lv.
