Allan Nascimento vs Mitch Raposo Prediction – UFC Vegas 119 Predictions

Allan Nascimento (22-6) is perfect outside of a split decision loss to Tagir Ulanbekov in his debut and is starting to build a reputation as something of a dark horse in the 125 pound weight division. A lethal and opportunistic submission threat with sixteen wins by tap out to his name, “Puro Osso” has never been finished in his professional career and has two performance bonuses to his name throughout his UFC tenure. He’s currently on a solid four fight win streak, taking out Jake Hadley, Carlos Hernandez, Jafel Filho and Cody Durden in succession. His win over Durden last time out was particularly impressive, with the Brazilian knocking down the flyweight rankings staple en route to a submission victory.

Mitch Raposo (10-3) is a TUF 29 vet who had a rough go on The Ultimate Fighter and the Contender Series before finally earning a UFC contract on the heels of a four fight win streak on the regional scene. The 27-year-old flyweight is 1-2 in the UFC, having dropped back-to-back decisions to Andre Lima and Su Mudaerji before righting the ship with a decision over Azat Maksum in his latest outing. A wrestler with a refined technical boxing game, the biggest negative for Raposo is his inability to seize the moment when he needs to, whether that be in the striking or the grappling. He’s also one of the smaller flyweights on the entire roster, standing 5’5″ with a 64.5″ reach.

There’s a good chance that Raposo is going to get absolutely destroyed here. Nascimento has quietly put together one of the better runs in the 125 pound division, notching four successive wins with two submissions, despite suffering multiple cancellations and fighting fairly infrequently. He’s only lost to ranked competition since joining the promotion, falling by decision to a huge flyweight in Tagir Ulanbekov .

Raposo just doesn’t do enough in his fights to make me think he’s got any shot at leaving here with a victory. He lands 1.73 significant strikes per minute and only lands takedowns at a 37% clip, to say nothing of the fact that he’s got mediocre takedown defense for someone that’s supposedly a wrestler. He’s also on the wrong side of a massive size and reach discrepancy taking on one of the more underrated operators in the 125 pound division.

Either Raposo is getting to the mat with him, or he’s going to take advantage of a half-hearted takedown attempt to reverse position. Either way, I think the Chute Box fighter is going to find one of his signature submissions in this bout. I think “Puro Osso” gets a choke from the front headlock or taking the back somewhere inside the first two rounds, showing levels and getting his fifth straight win.
