Manel Kape vs Kyoji Horiguchi Prediction – UFC Vegas 119 Predictions

Ranked number two in the flyweight division, Manel Kape (22-7) is riding on the back of three consecutive knockouts heading into his third consecutive main event, the unfortunate victims were; Bruno Silva, Asu Almabayev, and Brandon Royval. Kape is pure power, he stalks in both stances, lays traps behind his jab and fakes, and looks to unleash his right hand. His sole recent loss was to grappler Muhammad Mokaev in a boring staring duel. He has a strong finishing threat and goes deep into fights.

One of the most decorated flyweights and bantamweights of his history, former Rizin and Bellator champion Kyoji Horiguchi (36-5, 1NC) is ranked number five in the UFC and is on an eight-fight unbeaten run. He has defeated Tagir Ulanbekov and outpointed Amir Albazi since returning to the division. Arguably the fastest and most elusive fighter in the category, the Japanese veteran operates off persistent lateral movement, diverse kicks and angular attacks no other fighter can equal. He’s been finished on the feet by both Kai Asakura and Sergio Pettis, and tends to spin out of missed kicks, creating windows to be exploited.

The 2017 result is too far back to mean anything beyond the plot itself. It’s five rounds of Kape’s power versus Horiguchi’s speed and movement, a clash of styles.

Kape’s way is violent and obvious. He’s got the power to take his strength with him throughout, and knockouts in the second and third as easily as he does the first, and the explosiveness to blitz in and shatter Horiguchi, who’s had durability fail him in the past. Horiguchi’s tendency to spin off missed kicks, the precise split second Kape needs, adds to that risk. And to be alive to that threat for a full five rounds takes a lot of concentration.

Horiguchi has experience on his side. He could be the quickest man in the entire promotion, attacking from angles Kape shouldn’t be able to anticipate. If he can survive the treacherous early rounds, his cardio and championship experience should allow him to pull away late and bank the scorecards, plus the submission threat is always there. I think Horiguchi can survive Kape if other guys in the lower weight classes could survive him, I even see a possibility of snatching a late finish. Either way, this is going to be a hell of a fight.
