Andre Lima vs Kevin Borjas Prediction – UFC Vegas 119 Predictions

Andre Lima (11-0) will aim to pick up his fifth win in five fights under the UFC banner. Best known for getting a DQ win in his debut when Igor Severino decided the best way to win was to bite his opponent, Lima fights out of Brazil. Lima has also beaten Mitch Raposo, Felipe dos Santos and Daniel Barez, the latter of which gave him his first UFC stoppage by rear naked choke, along with his ludicrous first victory. Undeterred by several fight cancellations, “Mascote” has failed to develop momentum but is a slick Muay Thai striker with high output and superb defense, and could well be knocking on the door of the Top 10 if not for his relative inactivity.

Things haven’t gone to plan for Kevin Borjas (10-5) since stepping up to UFC level, with the Contender Series decision victory punching his ticket to the promotion. El Gallo Negro is just 1-4 since, with a spectacular upset effort against Ronaldo Rodriguez as his solitary win in a stretch that has seen him finished twice. The Peruvian is a terrific striker who compensates for his lack of height with an excellent reach but his win over Rodriguez is looking more and more like a flash in the pan with every succeeding performance. Borjas last fought in February, knocking down Imanol Rodriguez twice before losing by TKO in the second round.

Lima is a sneaky decent flyweight. He is a good striker, good Muay Thai and mixes in well timed offensive grappling – keeping his opponents off balance and adjusting to whatever the fight calls for. Felipe dos Santos might not be on the roster anymore but he gave elite players Manel Kape and Lone’er Kavanagh a run for their money. The fact Lima beat him so decisively is a measure to his quality.

Meanwhile, Borjas, at only 28 years of age, seems to be on his way out. His career in the promotion has been tarnished by failures in combat IQ and an inability to pull the trigger when it counts. He’s also been shown to have the propensity to get badly overwhelmed when the fight isn’t going his way. Joshua Van, Su Mudaerji and Alessandro Costa virtually transformed him into a walking punching bag after nullifying the Peruvian’s early danger.

He hasn’t demonstrated he’s on par with the guys above but Lima appears to have a pretty definite edge on the feet and in the grappling. Early on, “Mascote” will be scary, but I think he’ll quickly take control after he gets over the early blitzes. Lima’s damage builds up as she consistently takes on “El Gallo Negro” from range, leading to a late finish. I envision Borjas curled up against the cage or giving up his neck after crumpling from Lima’s attack.
