Bia Mesquita vs Melissa Mullins Prediction – UFC Vegas 119 Predictions

Bia Mesquita (7-0) is undefeated in two fights since debuting in the organization in October, and she’ll attempt to make it three in a row with her third submission in as many UFC battles on Saturday night. Mesquita is one of the most accomplished BJJ practitioners in UFC history and has been perfect in her MMA career thus far, with a 100% submission rate outside of a DQ win when she received an illegal upkick from Hope Chase in LFA. Second degree black belt has been a breath of fresh air in the women’s bantamweight class with rear naked choke victories over Irina Alekseeva and Montserrat Rendon.

Melissa Mullins (7-2) returns for her first fight since 2025 after a fight with Luana Carolina fizzled in March, and now she looks to right the ship after a disheartening loss to Darya Zheleznyakova last time out. Since joining to the UFC back in 2023, “No Mess” has gone back and forth in the promotion, recording victories over Irina Alekseeva and Klaudia Sygula while dropping decisions to Nora Cornolle and the aforementioned Zhelznyakova in a rematch. A heavy handed striker who isn’t hesitant to mix in takedowns, Mullins has been more active on the grappling circuit than the cage as of late, going 1-2 at ADCC.

No one can blame Mesquita for being such a big favorite here.

“The Lady GOAT” is a killer on the BJJ scene, finishing all but one of her seven professional fights to date via submission. Granted, she fought a steady diet of cans throughout her early career, but she’s been taking on tougher levels of competition and the finishes keep coming. Sure, she hasn’t faced anybody of ranked caliber in the promotion just yet, but she’s shown that she can maul fighters that are arguably on Mullins’ level.

The Englishwoman has a big size advantage here and could hypothetically land the bigger shots on the feet to take the win; Mesquita’s striking is nowhere near as polished as her grappling. However, it’s also worth mentioning the difference in performances against the pair’s only common opponent; the similarly sized Irina Alekseeva. “Russia Ronda” dropped Mullins and was also able to take her down, while Mesquita took Alekseeva down twice, beat her down with GNP and locked up an RNC without much trouble.

The momentum and activity from Mesquita, along with Mullins looking awful against Darya Zheleznyakova last time out makes this one a no-brainer. The Brazilian forces the action to the floor and locks up a submission somewhere in the first two rounds.
