New Orleans Saints Betting: How to Bet on this Team
Now on this New Orleans Saints Betting page, let’s check out the different ways in which you can place a bet on this team:
Moneyline
The moneyline is the simplest wager, with the winners and losers of each game determined straight up. Think about the following instance:
- Saints -150
- Colts +210
The Saints are the spread favorite in this game (shown by -150), thus to win $100, you must wager $150. (plus the initial bet back). In this game, the Colts are the underdog, paying out $310 overall for a $100 wager ($210 in profits). Moneyline wagers pay paid regardless of how much one team wins or loses; the amount is fixed.
Point Spread
How many points a team wins or loses by depends on the point spread bet.
Consider the following instance:
- Saints -1.5 (-110)
- Bills +1.5 (-110)
As seen by the “-1.5” sign, New Orleans is favored by 1.5 points in this instance. If the Saints defeat the opponent 31–27, the Saints (-1.5) win the wager and receive a total payoff of $10 on a $11 wager. The payout would remain the same if the Bills (+1.5) keep the game within 2 or won the game outright.
Point total (over/under)
The point total is the over/under limit established by the books. Similar to prop betting, this wager is made on whether one believes the final score will be over or under the predetermined point total.
For instance, the over/under for the Saints’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 15 was 54.5 points. In a shootout that saw the Saints lose 39-32, there were a total of 71 points scored. Those who had wagered on the over throughout the game would have won money.

New Orleans Saints Brief History
The team was born back in 1967 and played their games at Tulane Stadium until 1974 when they moved to the brand new Louisiana Superdome, now known as Mercedes-Benz Superdome. NOLA was barely able to compete for its first two decades, and its first winning season came back in 1987 when they finished with a 12-3 record, qualifying for the first time for the NFL playoffs.
The first division title for the Saints came in 1991, winning the NFC West after finishing with an 11-5 record, and the second came in the year 2000. The Superdome suffered considerable damage after the passing of Hurricane Katrina, but it was completely renovated and repaired for the 2006 season.
The first post-Katrina match was a Monday Night Football match versus the Falcons, which NOLA won 23-3, with a team that featured rookie head coach Sean Payton and new quarterback Drew Brees. And then it came 2009, the most successful season for the Saints.
That year the team was able to win a franchise-record 13 games, and also won Super Bowl XLIV after defeating AFC champs the Colts by 31-17. To date, this is the only Super Bowl this team has appeared at.
New Orleans Saints Team Rivalries
The Saints mostly hold rivalries with its divisional rivals, the Falcons, the Bucs, and the Panthers.
Atlanta Falcons
This is NOLA’s oldest rival. The two franchises joined the league within a year of each other as expansion franchises. They have been playing each other two times every season. And it’s the Falcons that currently lead the overall series at 52-48.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
These teams have been playing each other on a regular basis since the teams became NFC South rivals. But they also used to play each other quite often as non-division rivals before that. And this includes 12 straight meetings from 1981 until 1992. The teams have faced each other a total of 54 times, and it’s the Saints that hold the current series lead at 34-20.
Carolina Panthers
These two teams have been minor rivals since the Panthers joined the league as an expansion team back in 1995. They were first rivals at the NFC West, and NFC South rivals since 2002. This series is very close, with Carolina currently holding the lead at 25-24.
