Evangeline Downs History

Carencro, Louisiana was the location of the first track, which became operational on April 28, 1966. It stayed in that location until 2005, when it relocated to Opelousas, Louisiana.

In 2009, the Horseplayers Association of North America named Evangeline Downs as the sixth best thoroughbred racetrack in North America out of a total of sixty-five thoroughbred racetracks.
