Brad Marchand’s first text message in the Panthers group chat is revealed by Sam Bennett
After playing for the Boston Bruins for his whole 16-year NHL career, Brad Marchand is now officially a Florida Panther. After negotiations for a contract extension broke down, Boston started looking at trade options and, shortly before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, came to an agreement with the Panthers.
Prior to the team’s Tuesday trip to Boston to play the Bruins, Marchand had a media conference in Fort Lauderdale on Monday.
“I’m really proud of the amazing run I’ve had in that organization. “Sorry, just the way things went there,” Marchand remarked, becoming tearful. “I obviously adore the organization, so it was quite upsetting that things didn’t get done. I desired to remain there. Ultimately, though, I am also aware that every player has a shelf life and that business is business.
And whether that’s when we want it to be or not, there are instances when circumstances beyond our control take precedence. We would most likely be having a very different discussion at that moment if we were in the playoffs.”
Sam Bennett, the center for the Panthers, later addressed the media and revealed a behind-the-scenes incident: Marchand’s first text message in the team group chat following the deal.
Bennett stated, “He began chirping as soon as we added him in the group chat.” “He sent a chirp as his first communication. Immediately. You adore that. It helps to break the ice. That’s simply his personality, and we’re thrilled to have him here.”
Over the past few years, Marchand and Bennett have developed a rivalry. One particularly memorable incident occurred during the Stanley Cup playoffs last season when Bennett unintentionally struck Marchand in the jaw, causing him to miss Games 4 and 5 of the series.
After temporarily sharing a line for Canada during the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, the two are now officially teammates. Due to an upper-body ailment, Marchand is now on injured reserve and won’t be making his Panthers debut for a few more weeks. However, he has begun to accept his new self.
Brad Marchand is gradually becoming a member of the Panthers
Marchand stated that he’s thrilled to be a member of a team that appears poised for a championship run now that reality has set in. The defending Stanley Cup champions, who already have a number of outstanding veterans, benefit from his additional talent and expertise.
With a record of 40-21-3, the Panthers lead the Atlantic division by four points, four points ahead of Toronto, which is in second place. Florida has let up only one goal in its last four games, outscored its opponents 20–5, and won its last six games.
“We ultimately aim to win the Stanley Cup,” Marchand stated, “and you want an opportunity to play for that each and every year.” In this league, you never know how long you’ll be here. You want to make the most of your last day since you never know when it may come.
Marchand is a well-known leader who may be a little brazen. However, he stated that he is not interested in taking over a squad that already has a lot of leadership and good chemistry. However, that does not imply that he would alter his behavior.
“I simply have an extroverted personality,” Marchand stated. “My competitive nature kind of takes over when I’m playing on the ice. Sometimes I can be a little outspoken and emotional. Guys don’t take things personally, which is a nice thing when you’re in a great group, especially in hockey culture.
Following such a significant deal, the Panthers are also providing Marchand with the room he requires.
Coach Paul Maurice remarked, “It’s not just your typical trade.” “This player was the backbone of the team, and the team has a long history of having few captains. It’s a huge, huge deal. Additionally, it must be respected.
Tuesday marks the start of the Panthers’ six-game road journey to Boston. Marchand will travel with the team even though he won’t be playing.
