With momentum on its side, Cranston Western heads into Tuesday’s championship determined to continue its postseason run and keep its Little League Softball World Series dream alive.

Cranston Western Explodes Early Against Middletown

Cranston Western wasted no time taking control of the elimination game.

The offense erupted for four runs in the opening inning, immediately putting pressure on Middletown while Riker dominated in the circle. Cranston continued to build its advantage throughout the game, adding four more runs over the next three innings before putting the contest completely out of reach with a seven-run fifth inning.

The offensive outburst gave Cranston a commanding 15-0 lead, putting the mercy rule into effect before Middletown managed to score its lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

Aubrey Riker Dominates in the Circle

Riker once again proved why she has become the foundation of Cranston Western’s postseason success.

The standout pitcher threw 4.1 strong innings, allowing just:

• 2 hits
• 1 earned run
• 9 strikeouts

Her command was exceptional throughout the game, with four of her strikeouts coming on called third strikes as Middletown struggled to solve her mix of pitches.

Manager Bobby Arrighie praised his ace following the victory, emphasizing the confidence the team has every time Riker takes the ball.

According to Arrighie, Riker has been the team’s dependable leader for years across travel ball, recreation leagues, middle school competition, and All-Star tournaments, and she is prepared to pitch as much as necessary during the championship.

Cranston’s Offense Continues to Produce

While the pitching was dominant, Cranston Western’s lineup was equally impressive.

The team consistently applied pressure throughout the game, producing runs in nearly every inning before breaking things open during the decisive fifth inning.

Middletown Battles Until the Final Out

Despite facing a large deficit, Middletown continued competing during its final at-bat.

After Cranston turned to Brooke Dolan in relief, Middletown loaded the bases by putting four consecutive runners aboard and finally pushed across its first run of the game.

Following a quick visit from the coaching staff, Dolan settled in and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to secure the 15-1 victory and send Cranston Western to the championship round.

State Championship Rematch With Cumberland Awaits

The win sets up a highly anticipated championship matchup against Cumberland.

Because Cranston Western advanced through the loser’s bracket, it must defeat Cumberland twice to capture the state championship.

• Game 1: Tuesday, July 14, at Sullivan Field
• First pitch: 6:00 p.m.

If Cranston Western wins the opening game, the two teams will immediately play a decisive winner-take-all championship game to determine which program advances to the Little League Softball World Series East Regional in Bristol, Connecticut.
