Florida Panthers indefinitely suspended minority owner for social media posts
For statements on social media, the National Hockey League (NHL) fined minority owner Douglas Cifu indefinitely.
As a result of the Panthers’ 2-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 4 of their second-round series on Sunday night, an X account was terminated without any further action being taken.
It was the Toronto Sun that first reported on Cifu’s indefinite suspension from the National Hockey League.
According to Daly, Cifu will meet with Gary Bettman, the commissioner of the National Hockey League, at a time that is convenient for him.
Cifu, who is the vice-chairman, partner, and alternate governor of Sunrise Sports & Entertainment, utilized his previous X account, which was @dougielarge, in order to engage with supporters and encourage the team.
Cifu and Vincent Viola have been the owners of the Panthers from the year 2013. Because of his victory over the Edmonton Oilers the previous year, his name was engraved on the Stanley Cup.
Tuesday was the day that Florida Hockey Now received a message from Cifu expressing his regret for the social media posts he had made two days before. Not only does my behavior contradict family norms, but it also violates the Florida Panthers. My apologies go out to everyone who has been impacted by my words. My goal is to modify my behavior by working with the National Hockey League.
