Bills’ Tyler Bass Sets Career-High with 61-yard Field Goal to Beat Dolphins
The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins were tied at 27-27 late in the fourth quarter after Bills kicker Tyler Bass missed an extra point earlier in the game.
But Bass made up for it with a new career-long field goal from 61 yards out with five seconds left, giving Buffalo a 30-27 victory against its AFC East opponent.
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins offense put pressure on Josh Allen and his team with an 11-play, 81-yard touchdown drive in which the lefty found Jaylen Waddle in the end zone.
Jason Sanders’ extra point tied the score, leaving Allen with just over 90 seconds remaining. And this one appeared to be heading for OT when Allen failed to connect on a long ball to Keon Coleman on third-and-9.
However, Dolphins defender Jordan Poyer, a former Buffalo captain, was penalized for unnecessary roughness, giving the Bills an extra 15 yards and a first down with less than a minute remaining.
However, Bass was unable to reach the 58-yard field goal line because Allen was unable to locate Dalton Kincaid down the field for a massive gain and a much easier field goal.
However, when Bass took the kick, he was not thinking about the prior miss on the 33-yard extra point. Instead, he absolutely blasted the 61-yarder and celebrated appropriately with five seconds remaining.
The Dolphins attempted a desperate lateral play, but Greg Rosseau stopped Waddle, sealing the game for the Bills.
Buffalo got off to a poor start in this game, despite averaging 38 points per game at home prior to Sunday’s kickoff. They trailed 10-6 at halftime and couldn’t get going until the second half.
Allen began to heat up at this point, connecting with Mack Hollins for his first touchdown pass of the game. Then, rookie running back Ray Davis busted out a 63-yard catch-and-run to boost Buffalo’s offensive output.
Finally, Allen completed his third touchdown pass of the game with a little flip to Quintin Morris from two yards out. Allen went 25 of 39 for 235 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Meanwhile, Tagovailoa was extremely effective, going 25-of-28 for 231 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, with Tyreek Hill accounting for 80 of those yards on only four receptions.
