Rams at Lions Betting Preview

After a fantastic 2023 season in which the Detroit Lions (-3.5) won 12 games, took control of the NFC North title, and defeated the Los Angeles Rams (+3.5) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) in the NFL Playoffs, the city of Detroit is being handsomely rewarded with nine games that will be broadcast on national television, including five games that will be broadcast during primetime.

Wednesday evening saw the publication of the 2024 schedule, and the Lions are going to make a splash on “Sunday Night Football” to get things started off on the right foot. In a rematch of the NFC Wildcard Playoff game that took place the previous year, the Lions will play host to the Rams during primetime of Week 1. The bookmakers at YouWager.lv Sportsbook have established the starting betting line for the game as Detroit -3 points.

YouWager.lv has set the over/under for this game at 50.5 points, which is the highest point total of any of the games that are scheduled to take place during Week 1. This is another fascinating fact to take into consideration.

The Lions have made some significant changes on the defensive side of the ball, most notably signing defensive tackle DJ Reader, edge rusher Marcus Davenport, and corner Amik Robertson in free agency, trading for corner Carlton Davis, and drafting corners Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw in the first two rounds of the United States National Football League draft. The core of the Lions roster has remained the same.

On the offensive side of the ball, they brought in guard Kevin Zeitler and drafted running back Sione Vaki, but they traded away wide receiver Josh Reynolds and guard Jonah Jackson in free agency.

Jackson, along with fellow free agent guard Kevin Dotson, was the most notable player in the Rams’ class of free agents. Together, they helped the Rams rebuild their interior offensive line. When it came to defense, All-World defensive tackle Aaron Donald decided to retire, and the Rams used a “replace-by-committee” approach, selecting defensive end Jared Verse and defensive tackle Braden Fiske in the first two rounds of the NFL draft.

The Rams did an excellent job of adding young players to their squad with the remaining draft picks, as evidenced by the fact that Michigan running back Blake Corum is the most prominent member of this group.

Despite the fact that it will be difficult for the crowd at Ford Field to equal the energy that they generated for the Wildcard Playoff game, the fact that the Rams will be returning to town in Week 1 on “Sunday Night Football” is the ideal mix to get Lions fans excited. We can’t wait until September 8th to get here.
