Tennessee vs Alabama Betting Previews

Here are the Tennessee vs Alabama Betting previews for both teams.

Knecht carries Vols over Tigers

When Rick Barnes brought Dalton Knecht in from Northern Colorado during the off-season, most people thought he would be a great addition as a shot in the mix. The 6’6″ senior put 39 points on Auburn on February 28 as Tennessee beat them 92–84. He scored 25 of those points in the last 12 minutes.

Thirteen straight home wins against AP top-25 teams (nine against top-15 teams) set an SEC record for Tennesse. They have won five straight games and seven of their last eight. Knecht made 12 of 21 shots from the field and 5 of 8 shots from beyond the hoop. The Vols made 51% of their shots from the field and 53% (9-17) of their long range shots. Zakai Zeigler scored 17 points and had nine assists.

TN is in great shape going into the NCAA Tournament. In his most recent Bracketology report, Joe Lunardi ranks them as the No. 2 seed in the South. Five wins and five losses against Quad 1 teams put them in fifth place in the NCAA Net Rankings.Adjusted Offensive Efficiency ranks the Vols 19th, and Adjusted Defensive Efficiency ranks them 4th.

Knecht has jumped up a lot of NBA mock drafts. He has 20.8 points, 4.9 boards, and shoots 48.2% from the field and 41.4% from long range to lead the Vols. Jonas Aidoo (6-11, 241) scores 12.1 points, grabs 7.6 rebounds, stops 1.9 shots, and shoots 54.4%. Tennessee allows 80.7 points per game, which is 36th in the country. They shoot 45.8% from the field and 34.9% from long range. They let opponents score 67.2 points per game, with 38.3% shooting (3rd) and 31.1% from long range. It is 47th in the country for Rebound Rate, with 52.9%.

Alabama has no issues scoring the ball

Alabama scores 91.5 points per game, which is the most in the country, so scoring is not their main problem. They gave up 99 points at Auburn in a loss by 18 points last Saturday, and they gave up 117 points at Kentucky. They’ve won eight of their last ten games and four of their last five. They played Ole Miss on the road in their last game on Wednesday.

The Tide were down by three points at halftime, but they scored 64 points in the second half and beat the game 103–88. The backcourt for Alabama played really well. Mark Sears scored 26 points, and Hofstra finished with 18 points, 10 boards, and 10 assists. Aaron Estrada had the third triple-double in school history. Ole Miss made 52% of their shots from the field, but they gave the ball away 14 times. It was 50% from the field for Alabama, and they had 36 rebounds to 31 for the Rebels.

Lunardi has the Crimson Tide as the third seed in the West, and the NCAA Net Rankings put them at sixth place. This puts them in a good spot for the NCAA Tournament. As a team, Sears scores 20.6 points per game, assists 4.1 times, steals 1.8 times, rebounds 4.3 times, and shoots 51.1%. It takes 46.2% of Estrada’s shots to make 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

With a head injury, Latrell Wrightsell Jr. is not sure if he can play. Since he missed the last two games, he’s only scored 9.0 points per game and made 44.5% of his three-point shots this season. Their defense lets in 79.2 points per game on 43.9% shooting (32.1%). The team makes 48.4% of shots from the field, 38.1% (13th) of three-point shots, and 79.1% of free throws. 53.4 percent is the 36th best rate for return.

Best Bet for this Game

It should be fun, but the Crimson Tide will get back at you at home, where they are 13-1. In that first game, Alabama only made 4 of 21 shots (19%) from beyond the line. Sears and Estrada, who played in the backcourt, only made 11 out of 21 shots and turned the ball over nine times.

Since Alabama is at home, where they hit 41.1% from three-point range, you can expect them to shoot much better. They will lose their first game in March because they can’t stop the three-point shot on the road (37.2% of the time).

Prediction: Alabama -2.5
