Kentucky Women’s Basketball Dominates JMU to Advance in NCAA Tournament
With a first-quarter blitz that virtually ended the game, the Kentucky Wildcats demonstrated why they are a formidable 5-seed. Before the buzzer went out, the Cats dominated the Dukes 32–10. That was all that was required, but Kenny Brooks and crew still had much to work on over the remainder of the game.
Turnovers again
You are aware that this Kentucky WBB team can be turnover machines if you have followed them.That was evident today as Kentucky committed 11 turnovers in the second half. The Cats were fortunate to have that first quarter to rely on. For the remainder of the game, James Madison actually outscored Kentucky 46-39.
If Kenny Brooks’ prediction of a lot more basketball comes true, that kind of effort won’t succeed. The Cats must play clean basketball and lock it in.
Amelia Hassett keeps bombing away
Amelia Hassett and Asia Boone continued to trade the lead for the most 3-pointers made in a single season back in the SEC Tournament. Hassett (14 points) has increased her lead after today, shooting 4–13 from beyond the arc. For a Kentucky team that prefers to play slowly and get in the paint, Amelia’s floor spacing is essential.
The Cats’ offense is extremely hard to stop if she is making shots. When Tonie Morgan goes low, like she did today, it keeps people at home and frees up doubles off Clara Strack and Teonni Key.
Morgan finished with seven rebounds, seven assists, and eighteen points. Jordan Obi had twelve, and Clara Strack had a double-double (ten and fourteen).
What’s next
Kentucky now awaits the winner of either the MAC Tournament champion (13) Miami (OH) or the host (4) West Virginia. They will briefly occupy the court, and Kenny Brooks will undoubtedly have someone observing.
