After a five-game winning streak in the Atlantic Coast Conference, North Carolina’s winning streak has finally come to an end. In the wake of an emotional victory over their rival Duke on Saturday night, the Tar Heels experienced a rapid reversal in their performance. They traveled to Coral Gables to compete against a strong Miami squad, and in the end, South Carolina was defeated by the Hurricanes by a score of 75-66. The Hurricanes never took the lead in the game. It brings UNC’s overall record to 19-5, and its record in ACC play to 7-4. Given that the Tar Heels still had a challenging schedule ahead of them, this was yet another significant opportunity for them in Quad 1. However, rather than seizing the opportunity, UNC appeared to be slow from the beginning until the end. In light of the defeat at Miami, here are some immediate lessons for us.

The paint play that took place between the two teams is the focal point of this conflict. In the paint, Miami handily outscored North Carolina by a score of 46-28, establishing a clear dominance. Additionally, the Hurricanes outrebounded UNC by a score of 41-35, which resulted in additional possessions for the offense against the Tar Heels and restricted them to their own possessions.

This evening, North Carolina did not receive much from the post since Caleb Wilson was unable to play due to the injury he sustained to his left wrist. However, Henri Veesaar had a difficult time competing against the Hurricanes’ big men, who feasted throughout the night.

That entails a problem.

Caleb Wilson, a freshman, did not have a particularly impressive performance against Miami, following a spectacular game against Duke on Saturday. One of the reasons for this was that he may have sustained an injury to his left wrist while playing the game. Even though he played only 26 minutes, Wilson managed to score 12 points. However, he did miss some crucial minutes in the beginning of the second half. Initially, he went to the bench, and then he went to the locker room with the trainers. After that, he came back and checked herself back in. On the other hand, when he did check back in, he did so while concealing his left wrist with some tape. The fact that Wilson was able to come back is a positive development. Now, we are waiting to find out what truly took place and whether or not it will continue to affect him in the future.

This was a challenging game. This year, a lot of people in the Atlantic Coast Conference are surprised by the fact that North Carolina will be playing a talented Miami team away from home. Following their victory against Duke, the Tar Heels were not playing a traditional trap game in which they were competing against a team that they were obviously superior to. We are obligated to treat Miami with the respect it has earned up to this point in the season. Additionally, playing away from home is not a simple feat, and Coral Gables has not been a nice venue for the Tar Heels to play over the course of the past few years. The most important thing for North Carolina right now is to make a significant response when they play Pitt at home on Saturday.
