Tyler Tanner Scores 25 as No. 19 Vanderbilt Beats Auburn 84-76

The No. 19 Vanderbilt Bulldogs defeated the Auburn Tigers by a score of 84-76 on Tuesday night. Tyler Tanner scored 25 points, and Jalen Washington added 22 points. Despite shooting from beyond the arc at a rate of 25%, Washington was successful in seven out of eight shots and made both of his three-point efforts. In addition to his 12 points, Devin McGlockton grabbed seven rebounds. Last but not least, Tanner, the leading scorer for the Commodores, made a three-point shot late in the game to put an end to a surge by the Tigers in the second half. With 21 points, Tahaad Pettiford helped Auburn take the lead. KeShawn Murphy contributed 12 points, and Keyshawn Hall scored 13 points for the team.

The Vanderbilt Tigers (20-4, 7-4 Southeastern Conference) had 14 of their 25 made shots assisted by other players. There were only nine assists for Auburn. After finishing the final 6 minutes and 3 seconds on a 16-5 run, Vanderbilt entered halftime with a 42-31 lead over the other team. McGlockton was the driving force behind the Commodores’ run, scoring 12 of the team’s 16 points. During the first half of the game, Auburn (14-10, 5-6) shot only 32.1% from the field. However, they made 5 of 10 3-pointers, including a deep 3-pointer from Pettiford, which helped slow down Vanderbilt’s attack.

Additionally, they had an 18-12 rebounding lead. In the final minutes of the game, Auburn had a late run of 12-2 to bring the score to within four points, but they were unable to get any closer. The first time in five games that Auburn’s Simon Walker participated in a game was today. Only four minutes were played by the freshman guard, and he did not even attempt to take a shot. Because of a knee injury, Duke Miles, Vanderbilt’s second-leading scorer, was not available to play. Miles has now missed four consecutive games due to the ailment. Frankie Collins was also absent from the game.

During the upcoming weekend, Vanderbilt will play host to Texas A&M. There will be a game between Auburn and Arkansas on Saturday.
