Veltkamp adds 3 TDS, FAU beats Rice 27-21

In a game that took place on Saturday, Florida Atlantic defeated Rice by a score of 27-21. Caden Veltkamp tossed three touchdown passes, and Michael Kirch came in with two touchdowns.

FAU (2-3, 1-1 American) was led by Veltkamp, who completed 23 of 33 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Kirch, on the other hand, grabbed four catches for 82 yards and recorded a touchdown. The addition of 89 yards and a touchdown reception of 38 yards was made by Asaad Waseem.

Rice (3-3, 1-2) got off to a good start as Quinton Jackson broke loose for a touchdown run of 68 yards, but FAU promptly responded with a touchdown of their own. Veltkamp connected with Kirch for a touchdown that went for thirty yards, and then he connected with Waseem on a deep pass to put FAU ahead by fourteen points in the first quarter.

Before the halftime break, Garrison Smith kicked a field goal from 36 yards out, which increased the team’s lead to 17-7. Late in the third quarter, Veltkamp completed yet another lengthy drive by throwing a touchdown pass to Kirch for two yards. This came after Rice’s Chase Jenkins had scored a touchdown pass to Drayden Dickmann for 46 yards, bringing the score to within three points.

In the fourth quarter, Smith kicked his second field goal, bringing the score to 27-14. FAU’s defense held on after Jenkins scored a touchdown on a short run, bringing the score to six points.

While Jackson led Rice in rushing yards with 128 yards, Easton Messer led Rice in receiving with 11 receptions for 110 yards.
