Dolphins fans will soon be in Spain. This past Friday, the team said that they would host the NFL’s first game in Madrid in 2025. We will know who the opponent is and when the game will actually happen during the off-season.

In February of this year, the NFL said that a game would take place at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in 2025. This is the home field for the Real Madrid soccer team. It made sense for either the Dolphins or the Chicago Bears to host in Madrid, since both teams have rights to sell their products in Spain. The Dolphins say that they have tried to connect with these new fans over the past few years through watch parties, alumni appearances, and material in Spanish.

The Dolphins have played on a stage in another country seven times. Their most recent trip was to Germany in 2023. They lost that game to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, 21–14.

The NFL will play three games in London, one game in Germany, and one game in Madrid next season. The league can plan up to eight games in other countries.
