2 Dodgers Announce Retirement After World Series Win

After winning the World Series against the New York Yankees, two Los Angeles Dodgers players announced their retirement. The two players helped the Dodgers win their ninth championship and participated in the team’s victory parade in Los Angeles on Friday.

Daniel Hudson, the Dodgers’ reliever, announced his retirement on Wednesday following their victory. Hudson won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019, but he returned to the Dodgers for the 2024 season to pursue another championship.

“This was the only reason I came back,” Hudson remarked of the World Series. “To finish on top. And that is exactly what is happening.”

Hudson pitched in two games as the Dodgers won the World Series. Hudson made his World Series debut in Game 3, giving up one hit and no runs while striking out two in 0.2 innings. He struggled in his final appearance, allowing four earned runs in the Dodgers’ only World Series loss in Game 4.

Hudson was 6-2 in his final season, his fourth overall as a Dodger, with a 3.00 ERA, 63 strikeouts, and 10 saves in 65 games.

Before joining the Dodgers, outfielder Kevin Kiermaier indicated that he would retire following the 2024 season. When Kiermaier was still a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, he announced his retirement following the season.

Kiermaier was traded to the Dodgers less than a week later, and he went on to win his first career World Series as his final act. The Dodgers did not include Kiermaier on their World Series roster, but he did appear in four games during the National League Championship Series. Kiermaier scored two runs in the 2024 postseason.

“What a time to be alive!” Kiermaier wrote on X following the World Series. “I’m ending my career as WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS! All credit goes to my incredible teammates! Thank you, Dodgers, for the best chance I could have hoped for! “Champions forever!”

Kiermaier hit .203 with 12 hits, seven runs, one home run, and eight RBIs over 34 games with the Dodgers after he was traded to the team. The 34-year-old retires as four-time Gold Glove winner, Platinum Glove winner, and, most importantly, World Series champion.
