The famed Legion of Boom is not the group in question.

Individual personalities tend to trend more toward quietly confident personalities rather than boisterous personalities. There are not a lot of All-Pros.

However, in order to get to Super Bowl LX, this Seattle Seahawks defense created its own “Dark Side” persona. And on Sunday, in front of 70,823 fans at Levi’s Stadium, the team demonstrated to the world that there is room in Seahawks history for more than one hard-hitting, suffocating defensive.

With a victory over the New England Patriots by a score of 29-13, the Seattle Seahawks were able to secure their second Super Bowl title and their first since 2014.

“They lived up to the ‘Dark Side’ today,” Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald remarked as he clutched the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the winner’s stage when the game was over. “It’s going to go down in the history books.” We have a deep affection for our guys. Take a look at it: they got it done. It was brought to life by them, and we were victorious in the game.

As the Seahawks concluded the season with ten consecutive victories, the defense was responsible for three turnovers, Jason Myers set a record for the number of field goals kicked in the Super Bowl with five, and running back Kenneth Walker III rushed for 135 yards, earning him the title of as the most valuable player.

While neither quarterback Sam Darnold of the Seahawks nor quarterback Drake Maye of the Patriots were able to find a rhythm that was consistent throughout the game, the defense of the Seahawks was dominant.

It is important to not misunderstand the mantra that Macdonald and his staff have adopted, which is “we don’t care.” They care about each other and they care about their legacy.

As a result, they will now be concerned about the Lombardi Trophy.

“It’s been such a special journey with these guys,” said Darnold. “There has been a very significant amount of effort that has been put into this.” … Quite simply, a job well done.”

Ernest Jones IV, a linebacker for the Seahawks, Cooper Kupp, a receiver for the Rams, and Cam Akers, a running back for the Seahawks, all started in the final game of the Super Bowl LVI in 2022. This was the Seahawks’ second championship in the past four years.

The unit that Jones led on Sunday hounded Maye and never allowed him to feel comfortable in or out of the pocket. Jones was the leader of this unit.

There were two sacks of Maye, one by linebacker Derick Hall and the other by lineman Byron Murphy. Cornerback Devon Witherspoon sacked Maye in the first half, and in the fourth quarter, he struck his arm on a pass, which led to linebacker Uchenna Nwosu returning an interception for a touchdown. Defensive end Rylie Mills also got a sack.

Hall made the play that turned the tide of the game late in the third quarter when he sacked Maye and stripped the ball, causing a fumble that was recovered by Murphy at the Patriots’ 37-yard line. Five plays later, Darnold connected with tight end AJ Barner for a touchdown pass that went for 16 yards, and it appeared that the Seahawks were on their way to becoming the first team in Super Bowl history to throw a shutout.

But Maye came back and connected with Mack Hollins for a gain of 24 yards, and then again on a touchdown pass of 35 yards that brought the Patriots to within 12 points of the New England Patriots.

Fans of the Patriots may have envisioned a result similar to that of Super Bowl LI in 2017, when Tom Brady led the Patriots to victory over the Atlanta Falcons after they had fallen down by a score of 28-3.

On the other hand, the Seahawks made certain that this would not take place.

With 8 minutes and 37 seconds remaining, safety Julian Love intercepted a pass from Maye, and Myers made his final field goal to extend the advantage to 22-7.

As the fourth quarter came to a close, Witherspoon made a hit on Maye, and Nwosu was able to collect the ball while it was in the air and return it 45 yards, giving the team a 29-7 lead.

Maye threw a touchdown pass to running back Rhamondre Stevenson for seven yards with 2 minutes and 21 seconds remaining in the game, but that was the only touchdown the Patriots were able to score later in the game.

Not a single Seahawk was more content than Darnold.
