Before halfway, North Carolina’s disastrous first half against Clemson sends fans packing.
The crowd that was at Kenan Memorial Stadium on Saturday left before the halftime break. There is no need to wait for the North Carolina football squad coached by Bill Belichick.
Following a dreadful first half, Carolina was trailing Clemson by a score of 35-3 at the halftime break. There were four touchdowns scored by the Tigers in the first quarter, as they gained 367 yards on 36 plays.
The first offensive play that Clemson played resulted in a goal. After a slant pass from Cade Klubnik, Antonio Williams connected with T.J. Moore for a touchdown that was 75 yards long.
North Carolina scored a field goal on its opening offensive drive, then Klubnik threw four touchdown passes in 20 minutes. Klubnik completed 21-of-23 passes for 251 yards as North Carolina struggled to stop Clemson’s passing attack.
That aerial exhibition from a Clemson offense that had struggled in its previous four games convinced thousands of supporters to leave.
When the second half began, just a tiny fraction of seats were still occupied.
North Carolina came into the game with a record of 2-2, having suffered lopsided defeats at the hands of TCU and UCF, two power conference opponents that it had had to contend with throughout the first four games of the season. The first ACC test of the season for the Tar Heels was against Clemson, and it is very evident that North Carolina and Belichick have a great deal of work to do in order to merely be competitive in the conference where they play.
