Dolphins Tyreek Hill wants to give the best version of himself
Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Dolphins, says he wants to be the best version of himself, something he hasn’t done in his ten years in the NFL.
Hill told reporters shortly after the Dolphins veterans arrived for training camp on Tuesday that the previous season’s occurrences changed his outlook for 2025. As Miami faltered to an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2021, Hill had one of his worst seasons.
After Miami’s regular-season finale in January, a disgruntled Hill expressed his unhappiness in a now-viral interview, but he now claims he has accepted responsibility for his own performance.
“This whole offseason, I’ve been busting my tail,” Hill stated. “I told my dad that I wanted to see what it would look like if I simply concentrated on football, my family, and myself. Throughout my career, I feel like I haven’t been playing Tyreek to the best of my abilities.
“I’ve always been trying to be here and be there, but me being able to slow down a little bit, train and bust my tail for myself and then also for this community and this team, I feel like it’ll be worth it.”
Hill and Olympic gold winner Noah Lyles have been exchanging barbs on social media for the last two offseasons in an attempt to start a footrace. Although Lyles eventually withdrew from the race for personal reasons, Hill still participated in a 100-meter race in the Last Chance Sprint Series in California last month.
This offseason, he has not only hosted his own live stream but also participated in the live streams of other content creators.
Hill responded that being present is the first step in concentrating on football for a player with a renownedly varied range of extracurricular activities.
“Just being present every day, on time, doing things extra, like catching footballs after practice conditioning,” he stated. “Being the guy Miami paid me to be and what I know I can be, being that outspoken leader in the guys’ locker room whenever I’m exhausted… I worked hard to get here, and sometimes you’re like, ‘Okay, it’s okay now,’ when you reach a point in your life where you want to be.
“Like I said, me being able to slow down my life a lot, enjoy my kids a little bit in this offseason, I realized that I’ve got to continue to grind, man.”
In a postgame interview following his first-ever postseason absence, Hill implied that he desired a trade from the Dolphins. General manager Chris Grier denied that he ever asked for a trade, and Hill later withdrew his remarks and issued an apology in February.
After withdrawing from Miami’s regular-season finale when it became apparent the club would not qualify for the playoffs, Hill acknowledged during spring practices that he would need to regain his captaincy and demonstrate his worth.
He added he needed to be “better as a leader” in those situations because he has seen the film a lot this summer.
“This year, we have a great opportunity to stand out. He remarked, “I think guys have matured a lot.” “I’ve grown up a lot. Coach has even grown up a lot, which is fantastic, dude. We’re just going to keep building because we’re all developing together and laughing a lot in the locker room.”
