Tua Tagovailoa Retirement: Is The Fins QB Leaving at 26?

Many are calling on Tua Tagovailoa Retirement, but will the 26 year-old Miami Dolphins star decide to take the Andrew Luck route and quit?

Shannon Sharpe has pushed Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to prioritize his health and retire after another concussion. Meanwhile, Dez Bryant has taken a more radical stance, claiming that the NFL should intervene and make the decision for him.

During the third quarter of the 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa decided to run with the ball on fourth-and-four, but as he passed the first down marker, he was struck hard by Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

Tagovailoa’s neck snapped back when he collided with the ground, and his subsequent hand movements sparked immediate worries. Tagovailoa received a concussion and would not return to the game within six minutes after being led off the field to the locker room.

Tua Tagovailoa suffered a ‘traumatic brain injury’ after the collision in Bills vs Dolphins.

With a troubling history of concussions since joining the NFL in 2020, three confirmed incidents, and previous admissions by the quarterback himself that he has considered hanging up his boots following previous concussions, there is now a chorus of voices calling for him to consider his future and family and retire from the sport.

“I really hope Tua is okay, but he should definitely consider closing it down. I hate saying this. His concussions are getting worse and worse, and he’s a young man with his whole life ahead of him,” NFL legend Sharpe said on X.

Bryant, an ex-NFL player, has called on the league to interfere. “That’s it,” he wrote on X. “NFL, do the right thing. Tua has had way too many concussions. He needs to retire due to his longevity and health concerns.”

Tony Gonzalez, the Hall of Fame tight end, commented on Prime Video’s postgame show: “I am considering retirement here. To me, it appears to be an obvious choice. The brain has the potential to have long-term consequences. “For me, it is time to move on.”
